Community Insight

The need to understand our neighbourhoods has never been more important. This is where the local insight we provide is invaluable. Community Insight is an affordable tool that uses location-specific data to help you better focus your resources.

Built on more than 1,500 datasets, our Community Insight tool offers you a unique view of your world and helps you to identify your future role and prioritise investment activities. Community Insight is a web-based service jointly owned and development by HACT and Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI)

How does it work?

Community Insight is simple to use – you upload your stock data, whether as postcodes or Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) and you can instantly generate in-depth maps and reports on the areas you work in.

It doesn’t just overlay your stock on top of data maps, it allows you to define neighbourhoods (quite literally, by drawing on a map), report on them and compare them to your other neighbourhoods and communities.

Community Insight is a web-based service that accesses Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion’s (OCSI) huge database of constantly updated public data. Its mapping base is Google’s well tested Google Maps technology. The tool lets you define neighbourhoods, report on them and compare those areas against others in your community.

There are versions of Community Insight for England, Scotland and Wales, each with their own relevant datasets. Read more about the full list of datasets.

“Like many other housing associations, we were worried about the impact of Universal Credit on our residents. We used Community Insight to help us to understand the possible impact to determine where we needed to concentrate our advice support locally. We use the latest DWP data on Community Insight, cross referencing it with our own advice management data, which we upload to the system. We can then output a series of heat maps that visualise the impact and help us plan our services more effectively.”
